After receiving it, I went to go try to test something randomly. I wasn’t fully paying attention while reading and went to Dravanian Squeaker, which is not included in this book, instead of Capsized Squeaker and it turns out that it also has a 16:00-18:15 window (while trackers had 16-9) like Capsized Squeaker is stated to.

Most of these are fairly understandable errors, primarily just time which is difficult to prove or disprove with big fish. In particular, many of these times are unusual and proving times like them is even more difficult especially with how players often report times when providing data.

Until now it was thought that fish would end their windows at :00 or :30, and that there were only two big fish that ended at :30.

As it turns out there is also :45, :20, :15, and :05 end points.

Further, Fingers from 2.3 is the first fish with a 30 Eorzean-minute time window rather than Ealad Skaan from 5.55.

The weather discrepancies are very lightly documented correctly in sources from around ARR/HW times and just got lost while popular resources were being established.

The way the book handles weather is also interesting in how it displays it, in specific weather groupings.

Sunny (晴天)

Clear Skies / Fair Skies / Heat Waves

Overcast (曇天)

Clouds / Fog / Wind / Dust Storms / Gloom

Sunny & Cloudy (曇晴)

Clear Skies / Fair Skies / Clouds / Fog

Precipitation (雨天)

Rain / Showers / Thunderstorms / Snow / Blizzards

Extreme Weather (荒天)

Gales / Rain / Showers / Thunder / Thunderstorms / Heat Waves / Blizzards / Gloom

Snowfall (降雪)

Snow / Blizzards

– A fish does not have to be available in all of these if its available in one.
– The groupings are used for some fish which have multiple weathers possible, or multiple weathers at either end of a
transition.
– There are some fish which could have a grouping used for its weather condition, but the book does not assign them one.

It describes using these:

“A generic term is used when there are multiple weather conditions. This is sensible because Gloom and Wind are not weathers from the zone that The Dreamweaver is in.

The terms are probably used for brevity, but I’m curious if there’s classification on the part of the designers using these because for some fish with a singular weather condition they use these groupings, while for some others they don’t.

Snowfall (降雪) is used for every fish in Coerthas with Snow/Blizzards as its weather condition, which does make sense. Precipitation (雨天) could also be used but in practice it is only used for fish with Rain/Showers/Thunderstorms.

The fish I’m most curious about that has a discrepancy is Sunfish. Trackers either have a sizable amount of erroneous data or the the weather restriction the book has is wrong (or more likely, Sunfish is bugged in some way in-game as it does have the ‘Weather Restrictions: Yes’ flag).

Everything else looked at that the book provides has been correct, in terms of what can be proven easily with white-rarity fish.
With big fish, the longer times times can be proven rather simply, but most of them are smaller time windows than trackers currently provide. The times for those are are basically attempting to proving a negative.

Translating the FSH-relevant portions of “クラフターとギャザラーをゼロから極める ファイナルファンタジーXIV 公式エンジニア＆サバイバルマニュアル” published by Square Enix.

[20,14

post-463","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-big-fish","category-useful-miscellanea
["GET
