Little Perykos & Gathering

Little Perykos is the only big fish in the game that does not have a gathering requirement.

Recording of escapes that were guaranteed to be Little Perykos:
100 gathering
170 gathering

Were either of these not eligible to catch it, I would have received the “Your gathering rating is insufficient for landing this catch” message.

The bites above are at gathering ratings so low that the fish required to Mooch to catch Little Perykos (Wahoo) has increased bite times. At these ratings, Little Perykos itself has longer bite times than it normally does, a behaviour only observed on fish without hard gathering breakpoints.

The lowest gathering rating I’ve successfully caught one at is 251:

little perykos at 251

The lowest confirmed big fish gathering breakpoint is 290 on i70 fish from patch 2.2.

Little Perykos is already a unique big fish in that it is:
1. the only one released in a x.0 patch (4.0)
3. the only one released in a fishing hole not in its expansion-specific areas
2. the only one that is a strong (!!) bite

This behaviour is likely not attributed to its unusual bite strength. The Salter, the other big fish that is not a ferocious (!!!) bite, is a weak (!) bite and has a hard gathering breakpoint.

On its fishing hole, the North Isle of Endless Summer in its entirety was added in 4.0 during the 2017 Moonfire Faire event when swimming was added to the game. On its addition the hole came with 8 fish in it that have existed since ARR, Castaway Chocobo Chick as a newly fishable minion, and Little Perykos as its big fish.

It seems to just be treated as an ARR-level fish, which is appropriate as its in Eastern La Noscea. Its soft breakpoints, where it will have its usual escape rate and bite time, are within the ARR gathering range.
It is Lv 50 and iLvl 80, which was originally an iLvl associated exclusively with some ARR big fish and Gigant Clam, and its soft breakpoints appear to be around the range of the hard breakpoints of fish of the iLvl.
